BAPCo® Adds Dark Mode support to MobileMark® 2018 – The latest version of the premier battery life benchmark for notebook PCs adds support for Dark Mode on Windows 10.

Austin, Texas – August, 03, 2020 – BAPCo®, a non-profit consortium of leading PC hardware manufacturers, today released an update to MobileMark® 2018, the premier performance-qualified battery life metric based on real-world applications. The update supports Dark Mode, a new application color theme for major Windows 10 applications.

In the updated MobileMark, a new optional configuration tool enables the “Dark Mode” background (sometimes referenced as “Dark Themes”) to support a host of applications measured by the benchmark. These include Adobe Acrobat DC, Microsoft Excel 2016, Microsoft OneNote 2016, Microsoft Outlook 2016, Microsoft PowerPoint 2016, and Microsoft Word 2016.

“By using a darker background, or adopting a dark-background theme, consumers can get both high battery life and excellent image quality.” said Hojung Lee, vice president of Samsung Display Product Planning. “Laptops with OLED displays, in particular, can increase their battery life significantly and dramatically sharpen images with the dark-background theme because OLED displays are able to control every pixel,” he added.

The darker background brings out the best display qualities in advanced notebooks by enhancing contrast, improving readability for the vision impaired, and sometimes reducing eye strain, in addition to increasing battery life. The Dark Mode status of a system is reported within the MobileMark Result PDF.

“The Lenovo PC development teams trust BAPCo benchmarking tools to help evaluate performance and optimize devices to provide smarter technology for all. Leveraging MobileMark 2018 and SYSmark 2018 performance metrics validates our focus on real-world application performance in our efforts to deliver unique customer experiences.” – Lenovo

MobileMark reflects usage patterns of business users in the areas of Office Productivity, Creativity, and Web Browsing. Using unmodified, retail versions of real-world applications for measurement, MobileMark 2018 features versions of Microsoft Office 2016, Google Chrome, and the Adobe Creative Cloud, among other popular applications.

MobileMark 2018 includes an enhanced graphical user interface with localized GUI and documentation for English (US), Chinese (Simplified), German, Russian, Portuguese (Brazilian), Japanese, Spanish, Polish and French, with a simplified “click and run” design. Reporting is available in a convenient combined, single-result PDF.

Since 1991, the BAPCo family of benchmarks has been used by PC OEMs, hardware and software developers, IT departments, system integrators, publishers and testing labs, as well as information technologists and computer industry analysts.

BAPCo’s membership development team spans the breadth of the computing industry and embraces a consortium of experts worldwide.
